Human Trafficking E-Focus Group Formed

At the June 2012 Gathering of the Sisters of Mercy West Midwest Community in Detroit, human trafficking emerged as an issue of particular interest and involvement to some of the participants. Because the West Midwest Community covers a huge geographical area; Michigan to California, this makes it impossible to hold face-to-face meetings, so we conceived the idea of forming an e-focus group.  Its purpose is to provide for persons to be part of the conversations to share information and resources, strengthen or connect existing networks, promote collaborative advocacy efforts and to learn from and encourage each other. There was a strong response to the invitation issued in the community e-newsletter. The present e-focus group has 33 members who are Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Associates, and colleagues from other women religious communities.  The invitation to join remains open and individuals continue to respond.

Anyone interested in participating in this group as it works on opportunities for education about trafficking at Mercy sponsored institutions, lobbying for passage of the federal Trafficking Victims Protection Act (SB1301) and identifying national networks, please email Sr. Jeanne, WMW Justice Team, at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Water: Did You Know? A power point presentation. 7/26/2010 4:06 PM
This power point contains facts and photographs that are staggering and sobering about water, its demand, its supply and the intense problems surrounding our use of water, water shortage, and the absence of adequate, clean water in much of the world. Questions include "Did you know?" and "So what does it mean?" In closing it says simply, "now you know." Not so simple, now that we know, what are we going to do about it?
