Job Overview: This full-time position based in Omaha, Neb., is highly collaborative and involves travel. The Community Coordinator works with a team to recruit, select, place and support volunteers for this national and international volunteer program. The coordinator supports and challenges full-time volunteers living in communities and serving with people who are economically poor and marginalized in society.
Qualifications: Bachelor or higher degree; Competent in technology; At least one year of post graduate service experience and/or experience in social activism, pastoral ministry and/or counseling, spiritual growth development, community building, retreat planning and working with diverse peoples; High level of organizational skills with a flexible attitude; Self-motivated, able to work independently, and also able to collaborate with a team performing similar job functions throughout the country.
General Responsibilities (included, but are not limited to):
• Relationship development within the Mercy Community and the wider community, with ministries for site development, colleges and universities for recruitment of volunteers;
• Represent MVC at volunteer and service fairs, colleges and other venues in the area;
• Work with MVC staff to coordinate the interview and selection process for Mercy volunteer;
• Identify potential sites and contacts for volunteer placements in consultation with the main office;
• Work with staff to coordinate Mercy Volunteer Transition and Orientation retreats;
• Create a local support group comprised of members, associates, companions and Mercy Volunteer Corps alumni representatives;
• Take responsibility for each Community site (e.g., locate and coordinate housing for the volunteers, manage leases; open and close residences at the beginning and end of each service year, oversee the progress of the volunteer community and conduct site visits as required).
Additional: Incumbent would report to the Executive Director, Mercy Volunteer Corps. This is a full-time position with full health benefits, an Employee Pension Plan, 403B employee match.
