Sister Nancy McInerny celebrated her golden jubilee of profession on August 15th in St. Joseph Parish, Elk Grove, Calif., where she serves as a pastoral associate.
Over 50 years she has served as an elementary school teacher, director of religious education and parish administrator in a number of parishes. Her joy and satisfaction is parish ministry. She enjoys journeying with catechumens and candidates as they go through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults as well as welcoming home inactive Catholics. The joy that these people express is always reassuring and strengthens her vocation in Mercy.
Nancy is a reader and enjoys especially biographies of inspiring people. She loves to listen to rousing speeches and enjoys poetry. She keeps a book of humorous quotations by her bed so she can have a chuckle before going to sleep. Her most memorable experience was opening the local newspaper and seeing her picture in the obituary column. Mistaken identity - but a sobering experience.

Sister Mary Corkery had the distinct surprise of being invited to accompany Sister Kathy Thill, West Midwest Community ministry director, to Lima, Peru, Dec. 5–12, 2009.
